The history of coffee
Today we will tell you about the origin of coffee and its history. It can be said that this drink appeared already in the 9th century. One of the oldest and most popular stories about the origin of coffee is about a young goatherd from Ethiopia. He noticed that his goats became very active when they ate red berries from unknown bushes growing nearby, so he tried chewing the beans himself and was surprised by their stimulating effect, then he realized that the berries of these bushes were the reason for the unusual behavior of the goats he was grazing, so the mysterious he brought the berries to the local monastery. The monks tasted the berries brought by the goatherd, but decided that they were bitter and tasteless, so they immediately threw them into the fire. A little later, the monks felt a wonderful aroma coming from the berries roasting on the fire, so later the monks took the coffee beans from the fire and poured boiling water over them, and declared the resulting drink a gift from God, because the properties of coffee did not allow them to sleep all night.
Although there are many different stories that tell about the origin of coffee, the homeland of this drink in the world is Ethiopia. The tradition of drinking coffee is believed to have originated in the 11th century, because it was at that time that coffee was first brought to Arabia from Ethiopia. It is believed that it was the Arabs who christened coffee, because they were absolutely fascinated by the tonic effect of the new "Muslim wine", since real wine was strictly prohibited for those who professed Islam. The Persians named coffee with the Arabic word qahwah. In the second XV century In the second half of the 20th century, pilgrims traveling through Mecca and Medina spread this drink throughout the Kingdom of Arabia, and a little later coffee reached Egypt as well. Gradually, this drink spread throughout the "Islamic world". It was in Turkey that coffee began to be roasted and its taste changed with the help of various spices. It was here that the coffee that was discovered and modified was the first that can be compared and identified with our favorite and infinitely loved drink of today. Although these countries were very protective of coffee from all arrivals, we can thank the Venetian merchants who brought the first bags of coffee beans to Western Europe in 1615 for bringing it to Europe. Coffee spread here very quickly and various coffee houses started to be established in different countries in Europe, everyone was very satisfied and surprised by its stimulating effect.
In the 20th century, Brazil was officially declared the world's largest coffee producer. Today, almost all of the world's coffee beans are grown in Central America, Brazil, and the tropical latitudes of South America. The coffee trade very quickly became the second place in the world market, after the oil trade, and in Germany after the Second World War, this drink symbolized the end of poverty and difficult post-war times.
